2022 Global Vision Address

October 6, 2022

Major General Timothy E. Orr (retired), will serve as the 2022 Global Vision keynote speaker. The Keynote Address is on Monday, October 17 at 10:45 a.m. in Sisam Arena, Johnson Wellness Center. His talk is titled, Forging and Maintaining Effective Security Cooperation Partnerships for the 21st Century.

General Orr assumed his duties as The Adjutant General (i.e., senior officer) of the Iowa National Guard in 2009. Two years later, the Iowa-Kosovo National Guard Partnership was established, partly to strengthen and reform the Kosovo Security Force but also to serve multiple needs of society in a nation that had declared its independence from Serbia only in 2008. The Iowa-Kosovo Partnership led to a sister state agreement between Iowa and Kosovo and supported the relocation of many immigrants from Kosovo to Central Iowa. The partnership is one of 65 worldwide partnerships in the National Guard State Partnership Program and serves to illustrate the potential for such partnerships to build international relationships between states and other nations. Because National Guard members have civilian jobs and skills, partnerships like Iowa’s with Kosovo also provide the means for a state to contribute significantly to the development of social infrastructure in a new nation.

Grand View's celebration of "Global Vision" was created to offer students, faculty and staff and the community opportunities to encounter belief systems, heritages and perspectives that differ from our own. The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of others, ourselves and our relationship to the world.
