Global Vision Week 2019

October 16, 2019

Tuesday October 15 - Thursday October 17

Grand View created Global Vision Week to offer students, faculty, staff and the community opportunities to encounter belief systems, heritages and perspectives that differ from our own. The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of others, ourselves and our relationship to the world.

This year's theme will be Health and Justice in our Community. We will focus on increasing our global awareness of external conditions and how they affect our health status. Our intent is to inspire you to think about this theme from a broad range of majors and professional fields. The week’s schedule is filled with thought-provoking co-curricular sessions throughout the daytime and evening. Please attend events yourself and encourage others to attend as well!

Our Keynote Address this year (Tuesday, October 15), The Quest for Environmental Justice: Human Rights and the Politics of Pollution, is to be delivered by special guest speaker Dr. Robert Bullard.

Professor Robert D. Bullard’s presentation focuses on environmental justice, climate change “hot-spot” zones and designing fair, just and effective adaptation, mitigation and community resilience strategies. He will also discuss his book, The Wrong Complexion for Protection, which analyzes more than eight decades of government response to natural and human-made disasters. Finally, he will offer strategies to dismantle institutional policies and practices that create, exacerbate and perpetuate inequality and vulnerability before and after disasters strike.
