Post Spring Break - Campus Operations

March 23, 2020

Welcome back from Spring Break. Things look much different than they usually do this time of year, but I want to assure you we are focused on your health and your education.

As we modify campus operations during the COVID-19 outbreak, we have updated our social distancing model as it applies to Grand View administrative offices.

Starting Monday, March 23, administrative offices will be open to assist you. To protect your health and that of others, however, the doors to offices will be locked, but staff members will be present to assist you. Each office will have a phone number listed on a sign that you can call for assistance. A staff member will ask if you are experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 and a few other questions. If you are feeling well and have a low risk of exposure, staff will be able to meet with you in person as necessary.

Faculty are also available to meet with you, depending on their individual schedules. Please contact your faculty members directly if you need to arrange one-on-one meetings.

Also, we ask that if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, difficulty breathing) that you not enter any campus building and to please call Adam Demers at (515) 263-2886. If you are a residential student, you may still access your room, but please call Adam immediately.

At this time, food service is still available, but we have transitioned to grab and go, so you will not be able to enjoy the usual variety of menu items and you will not be able to eat in the dining hall. We also ask that you not gather informally in other lounge areas, but that you take your meal back to your room or apartment.

If you are leaving campus for the remainder of the semester, you will be eligible for a partial refund or credit for housing and meal plans. Your credit and/or refund amount will depend on your unique housing assignment, meal plan usage and date or check-out from campus. To qualify for a credit and/or refund, you need to be checked out by Sunday, March 29. More information about the exact amount of your refund will follow in the next couple weeks.

We realize this situation is not ideal, but we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to keep our entire campus community safe. Please be aware that we may need to further restrict operations and/or access based on state or federal mandates. We will continue to update you as we receive information. Be sure to read your email and check the GV emergency web page here.

On a more positive note, we will be bringing back a few regular GV weekly events. Pastor Russ will stream his regular Tuesday Chapel (watch GV’s FB page) and we’ll be doing a virtual Wear it Wednesday (with prizes). Stay tuned to GV social media.

Thank you again,

President Henning
