You're In! What's Next?

Congratulations! We look forward to welcoming you to Grand View this fall to begin your college career. To make sure you are ready to go, there are a few things you should do this spring. Please complete the following by May 15. If you have any questions along the way, please contact the Admissions Office at admissions @ grandview.edu or (515) 263-2810. We're always here to help!

Note: During your first year you will take LIBA110: Core I Seminar

All the things you need to know for college, you learn in Core I Seminar. Core I is a time to discover who you are, why you’re here, where you’re going, and how to get there! Core I utilizes a team approach to teaching. Faculty, staff, GV Complete Coaches, and Librarians provide a built-in support network for first-year students on day one. All first-year students will be enrolled in LIBA 110: Core I Seminar in their first semester.

1) Submit College Credits & ACT/SAT Scores (if applicable)

If you have college credit for English, math or any other college credit, you can apply it to your Grand View education. Your college English or math credit and/or ACT/SAT information will also help us place you in the correct courses. If you have earned credit in ENG 105 (Composition I) and/or ENG 106 (Composition II), you will not be required to complete the English placement process.

2) Complete English & Math Placement

We want to make sure you are registered for courses where you can be successful and that are right for your major. The placement process is designed to help us help you. By being placed in the correct courses, you will be prepared for success, which will help you graduate on time!

English Placement

You will place into an English course based on your prior college credit or a sample of your writing. This process is called English placement and ensures you are in the class that best suits your needs. During the placement process, you will be asked to write an essay that will be read by at least two faculty members in the English Department, who will determine which course best meets your needs.

Math Placement

Math placement is optional, although we may recommend you complete it to ensure you are taking the math course(s) most appropriate for you. Follow these prompts to determine if it is recommended you complete the Math placement process.

3) Register for Orientation

After you have satisfied the prior credit/placement requirements for English and Math, you will get an email within 2-4 days with a link to sign up for Orientation.

We can't wait to meet you and welcome you to the Grand View family!
