Dr. Ahmadu Baba-Singhri Appointed to Iowa Human Rights Commission

Dr. Ahmadu Baba-Singhri,  Grand View Sociology professor, has been appointed by Governor Terry Branstad to serve in the Iowa Human Rights Commission, and was recently confirmed by the Iowa Senate. His specific duty is to focus on the status of African Americans. Dr. Baba-Singhri was appointed to a four-year term, beginning May 1st, 2016.

Before this appointment, Dr. Baba-Singhri worked with a Strategic Committee on Racial and Ethnic Disparity in the Criminal Justice, formed by the Governor's Office. He is currently the Chairman of the Criminal Justice for Iowa-Nebraska NAACP at which capacity he has worked with the Iowa Supreme Courts and Legislators to address issues of Racial and Ethnic Disparity in Sentencing and Juvenile Justice. Last Month he participated in the signing of a Bill into law that bans access to juvenile records in the state of Iowa.
