Social Work Seniors Present Original Research Projects

Seniors in the social work program designed and carried out original research projects, then presented their findings through a virtual poster session. The 23 posters were reviewed by 20 judges consisting of 15 faculty and administrators and six members of the Grand View Social Work Advisory Council. The students completed 14 qualitative projects and nine quantitative projects. Medals were awarded based on the judges’ scoring and recommendations:

  • Best Overall Research Project: Mariana Villa-Drees, “The Person In-between:” A qualitative Study of the Experiences of Latina Language Brokers
  • Best Qualitative Research Project: Josie Aguiniga, Challenges of First-generation College Students
  • Best Quantitative Research Project: Hannah Frerichs, Negative Behaviors Among Children Raised by Grandparents
  • Best Use of Theory: Jordan Rico, Workplace Discrimination and Minority Stress Theory
