About Us
In 2013 faculty members from Des Moines University, Drake University, Grand View University, and Des Moines Area Community College established an informal collaboration to provide IPE activities. In December of 2014, the original 4 institutions and Mercy College of Health Sciences signed a formal MOU resulting in an agreement to form the Des Moines Area IPE Collaborative (DMAIPEC). Additionally, a governance structure was agreed upon, with the creation of three levels: Provost Council, Administrative Council, and Planning Committee. The IPEC Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice were agreed upon to be used as the foundation for developing and assessing all IPE activities.
Interprofessional education occurs when students from two or more healthcare professions come together to learn with, about, and from each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes (World Health Organization).
