League of Legends Team Attending Gateway Legends Invitational
June 30, 2021
Grand View University’s League of Legends team had a strong 2021 year of competition despite the residual setbacks the pandemic forced onto collegiate esports. The varsity players went undefeated in their conference, took second place in the Illini Esports Invitational, and made a run in the CLoL nationals.
This upcoming holiday weekend, the team will be back in the saddle attending Maryville University’s inaugural Gateway Legends Invitational. This 16-team invitational tournament is produced by the Fair St. Louis Foundation and sponsored by The Centene Charitable Foundation with Nerd Street Gamers hosting the tournament operations. This will be the last tournament as a Viking for our very own Gabriel Eckenroth, who graduated this spring. “The team is looking forward to cap the year off with a LAN event - something so many of us missed due to the initial waves of the pandemic,” comments Esports Director, Nathan Ragsdell.
The Gateway Legends is a free event with live music, esports panels, and celebrity casters covering the gameplay over the weekend’s competition.
