Accounting Leaders Share Government Career Insights at Spring Event

At the Spring Accounting Event hosted by Grand View University on April 9, 2026, students had the opportunity to hear from experienced professionals in the field. Pictured are Accounting Professor Rob Ruisch, Laura Deavers Mead from the AGA Des Moines Chapter, and Melinda DeCorte from the Association of Government Accountants National Governing Board.

Melinda, who brings more than 25 years of experience in auditing, accounting, and government financial management, shared insights from her career and discussed federal financial management with students. Laura provided valuable guidance on pursuing government career opportunities, highlighted ways to get involved with the AGA including free student membership and explained the benefits of becoming a Certified Government Financial Manager.

Students gained valuable insight into career pathways in government accounting, professional development opportunities, and the importance of building connections within the field.
