Become an Athletic Director with Grand View's Master's in Sport Management
May 15, 2020
In February 2015, the Iowa State Board of Educational Examiners made a rule change to Iowa Code 282-22.8 (272), allowing individuals who do not have a teaching degree to become Authorized Athletics/Activities Administrators.
Individuals who have completed a baccalaureate, or master's degree, from a regionally-accredited institution in the Sport Management area, are now able to hold an active role as an Athletic/Activities administrator. Grand View's MSSM degree meets these requirements by the Iowa State Board of Educational Examiners. Dr. Scott Bull, Assistant Professor of Business Administration (Sport Management), says “If you aspire to be an athletic director, our MSSM program is the fastest, most convenient way to gain the skills, knowledge, and degree necessary to be able to apply for AD authorization in the state of Iowa."
Why Choose Grand View's M.S. in Sport Management:
- Complete in as little as 16 months (24 months part-time)

P.S. Individuals will also need an authorization to be a coach in Iowa. This authorization requires an approved 55 hour coaching authorization course, concussion training and CPR certification which can be completed before, during or after degree completion. Grand View provides the necessary courses to complete this authorization.
