Biochemistry Students Attend National DiscoverBMB 2024 Conference

April 5, 2024

Recently, three Biochemistry majors attended the national DiscoverBMB 2024 conference in San Antonio, TX — Isabelle Juhler, Lucas Kramer and Brooklyn Mills. Each is an undergraduate research student with Dr. Bonnie Hall, and all three presented their independent research projects twice: first at the undergraduate poster competition and then again at the scientific sessions during the conference.

Lucas presented about optimizing expression of an enzyme to help break down plastics. Isabelle presented two case studies she designed for use in teaching Biochemistry courses. Brooklyn presented about her work engineering a ligninase enzyme to improve biofuel production from plant sources. Brooklyn won an honorable mention for her research and poster, out of almost 300 posters in the competition. Great work Isabelle, Lucas and Brooklyn!
