Dr. Amy Mooney Named Director of Clinical Mental Health Counseling Graduate Program

Dr. Amy Mooney is the director of Grand View University’s new Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program. She has a Doctorate of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology, and has extensive experience in teaching, beginning in 2004 until the present. She has served as an Associate Professor and core faculty for over 13 years for a graduate counselor education program at a previous university before coming to Grand View.
In 2017 Mooney reactivated the branch of the American Counseling Association in Iowa and served as the President from 2017 to 2019. She currently serves as the Past President of the American Counseling Association of Iowa (ACA-IA) and is responsible for facilitating the ACA-IA annual symposium and serves as the Chair. Additionally, she was appointed by the Governor in 2019 to serve on the Board of Behavioral Science for the state of Iowa. Dr. Mooney remains actively involved in advocacy and other professional counseling associations.
Dr. Mooney’s research focus is on evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy, in the treatment of chronic pain, chronic illness, and opiate-exposed clients. Dr. Mooney is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and an Accredited Clinical Supervisor. Dr. Mooney is the founder and owner of Ames & Des Moines Therapy & Consulting.
On a personal note, Dr. Mooney currently resides in West Des Moines, IA. She has been married for 25 years and has two sons (24 and 22 years of age).
