Grand View Alumna Featured in Joanna Gaines Magnolia Journal

December 17, 2018

Danielle (Ameling) Chargo ‘09, one of this year's 10 Under 10 winners, was featured in the Joanna Gaines Magnolia Journal holiday gift guide for her custom stationary that is done on her letterpress. Danielle owns Iron Leaf Press in Mount Vernon. Chargo’s love of design and printing began after she completed a degree in graphic design. What started out as a hobby in her small apartment turned into a full-time passion, which led to a lucrative business!

The letterpress stationery is printed on an antique printing press, circa 1919. Each letter is placed individually using handset type.

“I've done various styles of personal stationery for years, but this particular style has been popular from the beginning, even before being featured,” Danielle says. ‘The feature was a surprise; I received the order in late summer and recognized the name, but figured it was a gift or something as there was no mention of publication/etc. I found out it was published when someone had tagged me in a photo of the magazine. It was quite the surprise! I ran out to grab a copy as soon as I found out. I've since printed a lot of these as the holidays are approaching. I love that this old equipment can live another life in a modern way.”

The various personal stationery options (and all other paper goods) are on Danielle’s website: ironleafpress.com/shop. She’s been in business since 2011 and in her current storefront in downtown Mount Vernon, Iowa for three years. Her big press sits right inside one of the front windows. The business carries a line of paper goods, along with writing instruments, greeting cards, and small gifts. This sounds like a great opportunity for your holiday shopping!
