Grand View Social Work Club to Host Town Hall Meeting

The National Association of Social Workers, Iowa Chapter (NASW IA) and the Grand View University Social Work Club are co-hosting a town hall meeting to discuss mental health with Iowa gubernatorial and U.S. Senate candidates on Thursday, January 6 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm CT. The event will be held in the Student Center, Speed Lyceum on campus. Parking is available on the south side of the Student Center.
NASW IA member Okpara Rice, MSW and CEO of Tanager Place in Cedar Rapids, will serve as the moderator. Questions will be asked by members of NASW IA and Grand View social work students. All declared candidates and the incumbent for the U.S. Senate race and all declared candidates and the incumbent for Governor’s race have been invited to participate. Approximately one-half of the event will be dedicated to the gubernatorial candidates and approximately one-half of the event will be dedicated to the U.S. Senate candidates.
At the time of this press release time, the following candidates have confirmed their attendance at the event:
- Deidre DeJear, candidate for Iowa Governor
- State Representative Ras Smith, candidate for Iowa Governor
- State Senator Jim Carlin, candidate for U.S. Senate
- Dr. Glenn Hurst, candidate for U.S. Senate
- Bob Krause, candidate for U.S. Senate
A few seats will be reserved for members of the press at the limited-seating live event, with preference given to TV outlets. Other members of the press who RSVP are welcome to join us on our live stream of the event. Masks will be required for those attending the in-person event.
