Grand View Students Gain Real-World Experience at the World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue

October 23, 2026

Students from Grand View University’s Multimedia Storytelling class had the opportunity to put their skills into practice while serving on the press team at the 2026 Borlaug Dialogue, hosted by the World Food Prize Foundation.

As volunteer storytellers, students created content for social media, websites, blogs and newsletters while supporting the press room alongside professional journalists.

The experience offered opportunities to learn beyond the newsroom. Students witnessed a Guinness World Record for the most hunger relief meals packaged in one hour, heard Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai speak about global hunger and girls’ education, and connected with professionals and participants from across the country and around the world.

“Experiences like this give students the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned, build confidence, and make professional connections that can shape their futures,” said Dr. Erin Kim-Cho, Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Practice at Grand View.

Current students Peyton Benson, Izzy Tipton and Lot Ounaphon joined alumni Taylor Thomas ’22 and Carly McCoy ’23 as reporters for the event.

Grand View also extends a special thank you to alumnae Nicole Barreca Prenger ’12 and Ashlee Dean ’25 of the World Food Prize Foundation for helping make this valuable learning experience possible.
