Iowa Safe Schools and Grand View University have teamed up to host Pride Camp June 12 - 14, 2018
June 4, 2018
Iowa Safe Schools, a statewide organization with a mission of providing safe, supportive and nurturing learning environments and communities for LGBTQ youth, will host a summer camp on the Grand View campus for LGBTQ youths on June 12-14. Pride Camp will offer students the opportunity to choose from three tracks: STEM, leadership or advocacy. The camp, designed to be a safe space for about 150 campers to learn, grow and connect with other students and community leaders, is sponsored by several businesses, among them Kemin Inc., Dwolla and Bankers Trust. Pride Camp is an epic, life changing program for LGBTQ and allied youth to learn, grow, and connect with each other.
Learn
Campers will choose between three tracks to follow for the duration of camp. These tracks include hands-on activities and scenarios that challenge students to use the skills and concepts that they learn to problem solve and create change.
Grow
Staff and counselors are not just leaders for campers, but serve as role models and mentors for LGBTQ and allied youth. Campers will build positive relationships with staff and counselors who want to empower the next generation of leaders.
Connect
Campers will meet other LGBTQ and allied youth who are passionate about creating change in their communities through activism and building relationships!
