June 17, 2025
Dr. Thomas Lecaque, Associate Professor of History at Grand View University, has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Nicholas Muller III Short-Term Research Fellowship at Fort Ticonderoga.
The competitive fellowship supports original research using Fort Ticonderoga’s renowned archives and collections of military material culture. Dr. Lecaque will travel to New York in December to begin his research.
“This is an incredible opportunity to work with one of the most impressive collections of military artifacts and documents in the country,” Dr. Lecaque said. “I'm thrilled to dig into the archives and see where this research leads.”
Dr. Lecaque is an expert in medieval and early modern religious violence, with particular interest in how those dynamics intersect with military culture. He is also a Membre Statuaire of LEM-CERCOR, an international research center based in France.
Fort Ticonderoga is a key historic site from both the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. The new fellowship honors Nicholas Muller III, a respected historian and former president of the Fort Ticonderoga Association.
