March 6, 2026

Grand View University Assistant Professor Carol Seehusen, PhD, has been selected to serve as President-Elect of the American Counseling Association of Iowa, a state chapter of the American Counseling Association. Her term will begin July 1, 2026.

As President-Elect, Seehusen will spend her first year learning the responsibilities of the presidency, supporting the current president in their work, and stepping in when needed. In her second year, she will begin her term as President.

In this leadership role, Seehusen will help guide advocacy efforts and professional development opportunities for mental health professionals across the state of Iowa. The organization provides webinars, continuing education opportunities, regional conferences, and advocacy initiatives such as Day on the Hill to support counselors and the communities they serve.

“As President-Elect and eventually President of the ACA of Iowa, I will have direct impact on mental health professional advocacy in the state,” said Seehusen. “This has a direct impact on our Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s students, as involvement in professional organizations is encouraged in our Code of Ethics and within CACREP curriculum.”

Seehusen serves as an assistant professor in Grand View University’s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in the Department of Counselor Education Programs. She holds credentials as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and Certified Brainspotting Therapist.

Her involvement with the American Counseling Association of Iowa also benefits Grand View students by connecting them with professional advocacy and leadership opportunities. Graduate students can participate in the organization through Graduate Student Representative roles and other professional engagement activities.
