During this year’s Read Across America Week, Viktor and members of Grand View University’s Education Club spent the week sharing the joy of reading with students across Des Moines Public Schools.
Throughout the week, the group visited 10 elementary schools: Brubaker Elementary, Capitol View Elementary, Carver Community School, Cattell Elementary, Garton Elementary, Madison Elementary, Oak Park Elementary, Phillips Elementary, Stowe Elementary, and Willard Elementary. In total, they reached more than 900 students through 25 read aloud sessions in more than 40 classrooms.
Students enjoyed an engaging reading of The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt, followed by interactive moments with Viktor that helped bring the story to life.
Grand View University is grateful to Des Moines Public Schools for welcoming our students into their classrooms and providing meaningful opportunities for future educators to connect with young learners while celebrating literacy. We look forward to continuing to strengthen its partnership with the district in the years ahead.
