Grand View University Announces 2026 MLK Keynote Speaker Kittie D. Weston-Knauer

Grand View University will welcome Kittie D. Weston Knauer as its 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Keynote Speaker on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Noon in the Viking Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Weston Knauer is a nationally recognized educator, author, community leader, and the nation’s oldest competitive female BMX racer. Her life’s work reflects a deep commitment to service, equity, resilience, and collective responsibility, values central to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

After a 33-year career with Des Moines Public Schools as a teacher, vice principal, and principal, Weston Knauer continues her work through KWK Enterprise, Inc., an educational consulting firm focused on creating student centered programs and strengthening communities. She is also widely known in the BMX world as Miss Kittie, having played a pivotal role in the revival of BMX racing in Iowa and advocating for greater inclusion of women in the sport.

At age 77, Weston Knauer continues to compete nationally, earning top honors and inspiring generations through her message of perseverance and purpose. Her story has been featured by national media outlets including the New York Times, CNN, AARP, NPR, and Axios.
