Grand View University Receives Major Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust Grant for Science Lab Upgrades

December 9, 2025

The Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust has awarded Grand View University a $110,492 grant to create a modern learning and research environment for science students. The award will support renovations to laboratory and chemical preparation spaces in Elings Hall and fund the purchase of a generator, enhancing the research and learning experience for students, faculty, and staff.

Grand View prioritizes hands-on learning in its science programs, and these updates will increase the number of students who can be accommodated in classes and research projects. The project will impact approximately 200 students per year, ranging from those in introductory biology and chemistry courses to students in upper-level research classes. The expanded research space will significantly improve access to student research opportunities and enhance lab safety by relocating the chemical preparation room out of student pathways. In addition, installing a generator will protect research resources during power outages.

Patty Williams, Grand View Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, said of the project, “Grand View is continually working to better the experience our students have in their educational journeys. We are grateful for our partnership with the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust in making these essential improvements.”

These improvements in Elings Hall represent the first phase of a planned large-scale renovation designed to make the building more accessible and to continue providing state-of-the-art learning and research experiences for Grand View students. Grand View President Rachelle Keck commented, “Grand View places a high priority on student success, and for many years our partnership with the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust has helped Grand View students succeed. The Trust’s support of students and institutions of higher education plays a vital role in the future of Iowa’s workforce.”

Grand View expects to complete the renovations during the summer of 2026.
