Dr. La'Toya Nicole Edwards Joins MSW program

Dr. La'Toya Nicole Edwards is a licensed clinical social worker, educator, consultant, and owner of Thriving Well Holistic Wellness Solutions, a private practice specializing in trauma-informed and integrative mental health care. She earned her Doctor of Social Work degree from Simmons University, her Master of Social Work from Norfolk State University, and dual bachelor’s degrees in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Welfare and African American & African Studies and dual minors in Women's Studies and Political Science from Old Dominion University.
With more than a decade of clinical practice, Dr. Edwards has worked extensively with individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, substance use disorders, and life transitions. Her clinical approach integrates evidence-based modalities including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, and other trauma-informed interventions.
Dr. Edwards is passionate about preparing the next generation of social workers by creating engaging, supportive, and clinically relevant learning environments. She believes that effective social work education bridges theory with practice while encouraging students to develop critical thinking, cultural humility, and confidence in their clinical skills.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Edwards provides clinical supervision, professional consultation, and continuing education trainings for behavioral health professionals across the country. Her professional interests include trauma-informed practice, clinical assessment and diagnosis, nervous system regulation, clinician wellness, and culturally responsive mental health care.
