Grand View Theatre Arts Presents "Freckleface Strawberry, The Musical"

October 5, 2026

The Grand View University Theatre Arts Department will bring the beloved children’s story Freckleface Strawberry to life this fall with three free performances for young audiences and families.

Freckleface Strawberry, The Musical will be presented Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 and 6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Grand View Theatre. Each performance runs approximately 60 minutes.

Based on the book by actress and author Julianne Moore, the musical follows Freckleface Strawberry, a young girl who wishes she could get rid of her freckles. Through friendship, humor and adventure, she discovers the importance of accepting herself and embracing what makes her unique.

The production is also reaching young audiences beyond the Grand View campus. The cast and crew will tour eight Des Moines elementary schools, bringing the production to more than 1,700 kindergarten through fifth-grade students.

The Polk County Community Betterment Grant helped Theatre Arts purchase two new microphones for the production. The Little Book also supported the project by covering shipping costs for books that will be provided to participating schools.

“GV Theatre Arts is so grateful to the Polk County Community Betterment Grant Program for this vital assistance so that we can share the joy of live theatre with elementary school students in Des Moines!” said Kristin Larson, Grand View Theatre Arts Chair and Professor of Theatre Arts and Speech.

Admission to all three Grand View performances is free, and seating is general admission. The house opens 30 minutes before each performance, so guests are encouraged to arrive early to choose their seats.
