Rachel Merrill-Schwaller Featured in Cedar Rapids Museum of Art Exhibition

October 7, 2026

Rachel Merrill-Schwaller, Professor of Art & Design at Grand View University, is exhibiting her work in the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art’s group exhibition Threading the Needle: Fiber Arts in Iowa this fall.

The exhibition, which runs October 3, 2026, through January 17, 2027, brings together the work of Iowa artists exploring fiber as a medium for contemporary art.

Merrill-Schwaller’s featured work, Untitled (Fields), is an installation of crocheted and tatted collars that explores aerial views of stadiums and platted fields. Through intricate fiber techniques and repeated patterns, the work transforms familiar landscapes into abstract forms.

The exhibition highlights the diverse ways Iowa artists are using fiber arts to explore place, pattern, material and personal expression.

Merrill-Schwaller’s work will be on display at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art as part of Threading the Needle: Fiber Arts in Iowa through Jan. 17, 2027.
