Title: Jacobson Institute Interim Director
Dept.: Academic Affairs

I am honored to serve as the Interim Director of the Jacobson Institute for Innovation in Education at Grand View University. Along with this role, I am Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Division of Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science at Loras College in Dubuque, IA. While my doctoral training focused on Singularity Theory applied to a problem in medical image analysis, soon after joining the faculty at Loras College in Dubuque, IA, I changed my professional heading to mathematics education.

For more than 10 years, I designed and delivered professional development consistent with the practices of Japanese-style Lesson Study to elementary and middle school teachers. More recently, my interests have broadened to include opportunities and issues in STEM education. I have served as co-Principal Investigator on two three-year Title IIA-funded projects aimed at math and science integration at the middle level. I currently serve on the executive boards for both the Iowa Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Iowa Section of the Association of Mathematics Teacher-Educators.
